I’m currently in beautiful Rhode Island, making my way through the New England states in my quest to complete a bucket list goal of visiting all 50 states.
But this weekend, I was in New Orleans, LA for Salim Omar’s Renegade CPA seminar. This two day event was jam packed with amazing speakers sharing their tips for success and practice growth.
Not being a professional speaker, I was extremely nervous to be speaking in front of such a large group (75+ attendees), especially as the final speaker of the event. After about 10 minutes, however, I relaxed a bit and got into the groove of things. After my 90 minute presentation, I was happily surprised that about 1/3 of the seminar attendees were interested in learning more, and I spent nearly two hours answering questions about collections representation.
It was also a pleasure to sit down with several Tax Marketing Tips readers, which is something I have never had the opportunity to do before. In fact, since I run a non-traditional tax practice, it’s rare for me to have face time with people at all outside of tax season. It was awesome to actually sit down with a few folks, discuss ideas, get feedback, etc.
Several recurring themes came up during the event, and these are primarily what I wanted to share with you today:
- Nothing happens unless you take action on the great ideas you come across.
- Collections representation (tax resolution) is still one of the most lucrative services you can offer in your practice, plus one of the best ways to feel good about helping people through your skill set.
- Marketing effectively to get new clients doesn’t have to be overly complicated.
- Maximizing your long-term relationship with a client is the key to longevity in practice.
- Systems are the most important element of maximizing your hourly rate AND increasing the equity value of your practice.
My four days in New Orleans were incredible. I got to meet a lot of wonderful people, had some great times out on the town, got some good ideas from other speakers to implement, and got over my personal fear of public speaking.
Over the next couple weeks, I’ll be sharing some specific action items that came out of New Orleans. These will either be things that came up during my conversations with other practitioners, or from some of the other speakers.
Before I sign off for today, don’t forget that the time is NOW to begin your summer tax resolution marketing campaigns, because 21-day letters are starting to hit taxpayers. When the SNOD hits, there is a significant “Top of Mind Awareness” element in relation to the tax debt problem, so it’s a good time to take advantage of IRS timing and obtain new clients.
